Sothis Watches

In ancient Egyptian mythology, Sothis is the embodiment of the star Sirius. The goddess Sothis is among other things a personification of fertility, and this is the reason designer Wolfgang Steinkruger makes new "stars" appear in the sky. According to stories handed down through the ages, the appearance of the star Sirius still expresses "the beginning and the most important phase of the year."

But the designer hasn't only reached for the stars with his ideas. Within the last few years his unusual designs and high demands on quality have opened up a new dimension for all fans of fine watches. Every year new models are added, and the core characteristics of the original case construction from 1996 are mirrored in each and every one of them. Primarily we are talking about the striking half-circles, representing a tri¬flute on every timepiece by Sothis: The three grooves symbolize the "earthly" opposites to the astrological background of the brand - the elements water, earth, and air.

Nothing is left to chance in Steinkruger's designs; each and every little detail fits in with all the others. No supplied part is "off the rack." All hands, for example, are especially constructed for the brand and made to match each other. The lavish construction of the cases, movements, and dials, components that are continually subjected to quality testing, as well as their striking visuals have secured a loyal following for Sothis over the years. This following is for the most part male, for the watches made by Steinkruger fit a strong wrist best due to their dimensions. But because there are always more women who appreciate large-sized watches, timepieces by Sothis have come to adorn the slim wrists of fashion-conscious women more and more.
Sothis Watch Brand

The two new models introduced in 2002 Spirit of Moon Prestige whose dial featured applied elements as well as a variation of the chronograph Central - have integrated themselves beautifully into the collection. The newly introduced chronograph Pharo, however, has the stuff to outshine the other models as the brightest star in Sothis's sky. Based on the Valjoux 7750 caliber, Wolfgang Steinkruger has developed a unique module featuring retrograde minutes and a jump hour display in cooperation with a reputable Swiss special atelier. The hours are shown in a window at 6 o'clock - during the day from six in the morning, the numerals are black against a white background, while after six in the evening they become white against a black background. The indication of minutes is retrograde on a 1800 scale across the upper half of the dial, and the characteristic Sothis star functions as the subsidiary second hand as it does on the Stard ust model.

To our knowledge there is no comparable chronograph in the world, leaving this timepiece's hometown of Bielefeld, Germany, to celebrate a real world premiere!
