| Auguste Reymond Watches |
The company Auguste Reymond, hailing from Tramelan in the Swiss Jura, has had a rather turbulent history, in some aspects
absolutely typical of many smaller Swiss watch producers. Founded in 1898 by the twenty¬seven-year-old Auguste Reymond, the company lost its independence to a large holding company along with many other brands in 1932 when Switzerland began its gigantic restructuring of the watch industry.
At the beginning, Auguste Reymond belonged to ASUAG where it was in charge of distributing the brands ARSA and UNITAS. Later it changed hands to SSIH, and finally, to the SMH (today's Swatch Group). In 1984 the mayor of the village of Tramelan, James Choffat, bought back "his" watch factory and gave it its independence. Only when the factory was put up for sale again in 1989 due to old age did Norbert and Thomas Loosli grab the opportunity to awaken Auguste Reymond to a new life with new models.
The young Thomas Loosli puts his money on unconventional ideas, but ones of uncommonly good sense. He strives for a fresh, young image for the brand and concentrates on both mechanical movements and the fact that his watches remain financially reasonable for the consumer. This was how the collection Jazz came into being, so successful that it is continually being expanded. Through the years, a stately model palette has emerged consisting of mechanical watches with musical names such as Ragtime, Charleston, and Dixieland. Even so¬called day-to-day complications are offered. A GMT indicator, a large decentral "doctor's" seconds subdial, a power reserve, a full calendar, and of course, various chronographs are all available.
Since the motto tradition et qualite has been carried in the company's logo for the last hundred years, a few specialties outfitted with vintage Unitas and ARSA calibers, which have slept for the last sixty years in Auguste Reymond's storeroom, now completely restored and newly decorated, have been created as an homage to the Auguste Reymond "of old."
