In the heart of Germany, geographically located exactly between the watch manufactures of the Swiss Jura and Germany's new, yet traditional watchmaking
stronghold Glashutte, Rainer and Petra Brand find the peace and quiet that are needed to pursue Rainer's craft in his studio and workshop. Brand, who rose from the ranks learning his craft from the base up, is also in charge of the design of his watches. This man of few words loves harmonious proportions. The simple shapes of his watches culminate in the attention to detail. True to his motto, "style is the product of quality and consciousness," precision, perfection, beauty, and understatement have top priority.
It all began in 1993 with the Havanna model that was renamed Panama in 1996 on the order
of a resourceful patent lawyer working for the Cuban tobacco industry. It represents both the collection's entry-level model and bestseller. Panama Dualtime is the variation designed for globetrotters at home in the different time zanes of the world. In the area of mechanical women's watches, the Sybaris model has caught the public's attention. The watch, named for a symbol of fine living, is both an eye-catcher and a technical delicacy. Rainer Brand's newest leading product for ambitious sports enthusiasts is the Kerala model, which explores the boundaries of the brand's established style with its more robust dimensions and striking luminous hands.
Brand's first square-shaped model, the reversible Giro, has become more than just a timepiece. It is at once both a beautiful piece of jewelry and
an eternally interesting toy. Because of the limited supply of the rare, hand-wound caliber FEF 170 used in this model, an interested buyer needs a lot of luck to find one of these sold-out watches.
Part of the Giro - namely the square, perfectly proportioned case that turns and rotates in its frame - lives on in the quadrate women's watch Pezza. Since the success of this watch became so apparent, Brand has become much more adventurous in his design while simultaneously remaining true to himself, as the newest creations of the house of Brand illustrate. A logical companion to the successful Pezza is the rectangular men's watch Ecco, a timepiece that also displays new perspectives. The strict case design and its narrow strap lugs build the simple frame for a dial feelingly reduced to only that which is necessary. It becomes more impressive with each glance and is irreplaceable in the Rainer Brand collection.
