| Oris Watches |
Oris is one of those brands that has always been characterized by a healthy relationship between its products and their prices. And while other watch brands use every chance to stress that they don't and never will make quartz watches, this fact is absolutely self -evident at Oris. "It's High Mech" was the tag line displayed in Oris advertising for years. No wonder that watch fans think of mechanical watches first when they think of Oris. Until the year 1982, Oris was a genuine manufacture with a large degree of autonomy. All of the company's movements, their parts, and finishing were produced in Oris's own ateliers, with the exception of mainsprings, balance springs, and jewels. In the 1950s Oris employed around 600 people and produced one to two million wristwatches and more than 100,000 alarm clocks per year.

Since the founding year of 1904, Oris has strived to bring high-quality mechanical watches of the company's own design outfitted with interesting movements to the market. Today there is hardly another company that can offer mechanical watches in comparative quality at these very competitive prices.
Fortunately, Oris has been able to call upon a rich fund of historical models that all seemed to have something special about them. One need only think about the hand-winding alarm watch outfitted with the AS Caliber 1730 and its
carefully modernized 1950s design that was obviously so much to the taste of an entire generation of mechanical watch consumers with its moderate price that, for a while, the demand for it seemed almost hysterical.
That sparked, in a manner of speaking, the beginning of Oris's career. Strongly fueled by the aboveŽmentioned catchy slogan and with just the right feel for consumer taste, the brand
has presented models full of character such as the XXL
Pointer, outfitted with an unusual sweep calendar hand, and the Complication. The XXL Worldtimer model, sporting a dial train developed exclusively for Oris, proves that the company also has the technical competence to profoundly and exclusively modify ETA base movements.
And let's not forget the overly large crown on some models, a characteristic that has practically become Oris's trademark over the last decade.
In keeping with this, the company named an entire line Big Crown, now known in its abbreviated form Be. Oris's participation in
Formula 1 racing as a sponsor of the BMW Williams team has inspired the technicians and designers to launch a racing collection. The sporty models magically recreate the glamor and excitement of the Grand Prix races on the wrist - using, of course, the top timing abilities of mature "high mech" movements.
