Omega Watches

Omega could hardly be judged a prominent brand in the 1970s and '80s, chiefly living off its fading fame as the producer of the legendary moon watch Omega Speed master. This brand's standing has changed drastically since the middle of the 1990s.

A successful mixture of "collection lifting," product improvement, creative advertising, and above all, a stressing of reinstated technical competence has allowed Omega to once again bask in the glow of good turnover. The brand has also buckled down where watch technology is concerned in order to help recapture previous successes.

At this point it may not remain unmentioned that in the past it was especially Omega - in close cooperation with the movement factory l.emania - who developed and built innumerable calibers. At that point in time, there was hardly another watch company able to bring the quality predicate "Swiss watch" onto the wrists of such a large group of consumers worldwide as Omega.

Omega Railmaster

While the company has in the last few years remembered women as being an important consumer group in issuing and extending corresponding sporty and elegant collections and advertising with "ambassadresses" from the worlds of beauty and sports, it also took a giant step down the technology path beginning with the industrial manufacture of the co-axial escapement invented by England's George Daniels. This escapement, whose serial realization represented a very difficult task for watch engineers, was a challenging piece of micromechanics. Since this new escapement gets along almost entirely without lubrication, its individual parts must be manufactured within an extremely small measure of tolerance. For this reason, Omega is especially proud to also present watches whose co-axial movements pass the strict test criteria of the C.O.S.C., the official Swiss testing institute for chronometers. At the beginning this escapement was kept for select watches belonging to the de Ville model family. In the meantime, the brand has not only developed a chronograph movement including the exclusive escapement, but has also extended the number of models allowed access to it, outfitting watches such as the Seamaster Aqua Terra, introduced two years ago, with the co-axial movement. The youngest member of the family is the Seamaster Aqua Terra Railmaster, a well-done reincarnation of a model from the 1950s that is striking in the clarity of its matte black dial and the clean design of the obviously timeless Seamaster case. Since it is the primary function of a rail watch to be precise, the Railmaster is outfitted with Omega Caliber 2403A, a movement whose exact method of work is attested to with a rate certificate from the C.O.S.C.
