The Limes watch brand was only created at the end of the 1990s when businessman Thomas Ickier decided to not only produce high-quality cases, but from then on to also build complete watches. ickier GmbH was founded in 1924 by Karl ickier, a trained chainmaker who worked as a production foreman in foreign companies at the beginning of his career. After returning to Pforzheim, he founded the watch case manufacturer known today as Ickier GmbH. After World War II, the company was rebuilt by the founder's sons, Heinz and Kurt. Today the company is managed by a third-generation Ickier, Thomas.
Above all, this company produces high-quality watch cases for internationally renowned customers, "made in Germany." The different case parts are manufactured by highly qualified employees who work on the most modern of CNC machines. Both the treatment of the case surfaces and the assembly of the watches require a large amount of talent and training.
In 1990 the company began manufacturing private label watches. Decades-long experience in the watch industry, a high level of quality, the already set-up production ability, and above all the desire to create something of his own led Thomas Ickier to the planning of the watch brand Limes a few years later. The concept was clear: high-quality Swiss movements in lavish manufacture cases by Ickier.
The lion's share of the Limes collection in stainless steel and titanium can be purchased for between $500 and $2,000. Watches in 18-karat rose or white gold can cost up to the $5,000 mark. For this amount of money, the customer gets high-quality, well outfitted, and stylistically attractive watches, which cultivate their own aesthetic apart from short-lived fashion trends and need not fear any comparison to products from the established competition.
This is especially true of the tonneau-shaped Integral line, strong in its balanced proportions and expressive dial variations. The line has been added to with an unusual tonneau chronograph that is outfitted with the" genuine" chronograph movement ETA Caliber 7750 Valjoux and not - as is so often the case in shaped watches - with a module movement. Another example is the Pharo family, a line that stands out in its elegance and flat construction type. Alongside manual winding and classic automatic winding, Pharo offers skeletonized movements and a complete calendar chronograph with moon phase.
The collection has been extended in 2003 by the ultra-flat men's watch 112 and Principio, available with GMT, chronograph, and power reserve functions. All of the successful watches of the Limes collection have above all three criteria in common: They offer both fascinating mechanics and classic watch design at a truly remarkable price.
