| Eterna Watches |
Eterna can proudly look back on a long history as one of the leading Swiss watch brands. In the year 1876 the first watch bearing this name appeared on the market:
Eterna was the new brand name for the watches coming from a factory that had been founded in 1856. Since then, the brand has proved its technical competence again and again.
Eterna's trademark illustrates the brand's importance: Five dots in the shape of a pentagon. This symbol represents the five tiny steel balls in the ball bearing that Eterna's engineers invented in 1948 - the one that rocketed the brand to worldwide fame in one fell swoop. This trailblazing invention in micromechanics represents still today a worldwide watchmaking standard and is utilized by countless watch companies.
The positioning of the watch families 1948 and the evergreen KonTiki are proof positive that Eterna is careful to keep its great past in the
conscious memory of the watch fan. This is not to say that the company would like to be regarded as old-fashioned, but the return to old values does fit into the horological world's contemporary frame of mind.
For Eterna this is all part of corporate objective planning for the future. A very promising future as the year 1995 proved, when Eterna went into the hands of no less than Professor Ferdinand Alexander Porsche. Since the takeover by F. A.
P. Beteiligung GmbH, not only has Eterna produced Porsche Design's watches, but a positive side effect has emerged in the form of the developmental support, innovative talent, and creativity emanating from FA Porsche's design office in Eterna's direction.
It was a good year ago that the company took a further step in bringing the old brand back to its earlier successful path. The new president, Ernst F. Seyr, has lots of plans racing around his head, and it's not hard for him to believe that he can make Eterna into what it once was: a
watch brand with its own movement production, a genuine manufacture. In two years, 2006, Eterna will celebrate its 150th anniversary. Perhaps Eterna's great past will be part of its future by then. At any rate, this is more than enough reason to look forward to this jubilee year!
