During the Swiss watch industry's restructuration, something very necessary for survival in the industry at that time, several different and once independent ebeuche producers were consolidated into ETA SA Manufacture Horlogere Suisse, which is
today without a doubt the most important company of the Swatch Group. There is not one single company within this holding that does not purchase watch components from ETA and its annexed companies. The same is true of the entire Swiss watchmaking industry, especially since the Swatch Group's other movement manufacturers, Nouvelle l.ernania and Frederic Piguet, have in fact stopped delivering their wares to watch brands outside of the group.
The fabrication of the company's electronic and mechanical watch movements is spread over more than twenty factories, mostly in Switzerland, but also in other European countries as well as the Far East and Southeast, Asia. Rational production ensures trustworthy, reliable technology at inexpensive prices, assuring a large clientele of more than 800 different companies. ETA also produces specially developed movements and protected movement constellations for various watch brands within the group. In addition, the business garnered by small specialist reassembly workshops with individualized movements is something that ETA itself will be expanding upon in the near future - and will not be supplying these workshops with movement kits anymore.

Caliber 6497/6498
Only a few watch lovers know that ETA still produces two genuine pocket watch movements today. Caliber 6497 (lepine, subsidiary seconds under the winding axle) and Caliber 6498 (hunter, subsidiary seconds at 6 o'dock) are available in two versions and finishes - as 6497-1 and 6498-1 in a sober, undecorated version, andas 6497-2 and 6498-2 with subdued line decorations on the bridges and cocks as well as beveled and line-decorated transmission and detent wheels.
