David Freemont McCready was first introduced to watchmaking about fifty years ago. Raised in Altoona, Pennsylvania, an area that houses more clockand watchmaking than any other in the United States, McCready was introduced to the micromechanical art form at the tender age of fifteen as the result of an agreement between his father, a man also fascinated by mechanics and electronics, and a local watchmaker. After a number of months occupied with this learning experience, the teenaged McCready's technical mind turned to more pressing matters: motorcycles and automobiles, a love of which would also accompany him throughout his life. Twenty-five years later, the early activity became a hobby, and the previous experience in watchmaking manifested itself in the restoration and repair of wristwatches.

In the early 1990s, this rekindled interest coupled with the maturity necessary to own a business led to the establishment of d.freemont, Inc. Having spent the greater part of three decades as a technical sales engineer, McCready's instincts and unspent creativity guided him in creating his own wristwatches.
His company philosophy stresses the importance of customer satisfaction and the development of consumer loyalty. d.freemont watches are offered exclusively via McCready's own Internet website both to assure the consumer of the timepieces' source and as a way to cut the retail cost by forgoing the middleman.
Functionality and attention to detail are the typical characteristics of d.freemont watches. When designing his watches, it is not McCready's intent to latch on to a current
trend, but rather to make his timepieces classic and collectible.
His goal is to keep the concentration on the real purpose of the watch - telling time - all the while attempting to incorporate an enduring presence binding the timepiece to the owner.
d.freemont's original mechanical collection was inspired by well-known locations in North America and Europe, with McCready striving to capture their essence and flavor in the design. Famous names such as Barcelona, Rockefeller Center, Miami, Niagara, 90212 Rodeo Drive, and even Basel adorn the watches ranging in price from $280 to $1,850.
The Acugraph 7750 was new in 1991 and is a chronograph whose honest intent is to tell the time clearly without forcing the wearer to first wade through many other visual displays before finally getting to the meat. The Acugraph's features are much simpler than those of other chronographs. There is, for example, only one chapter ring for the combined functions of tachymeter, telemeter, and pulsimeter. This eliminates the superfluous ranges of these timing parameters in favor of the ranges most commonly used.
Proving that McCready's creative mind isn't only technical, 2002 saw the release the Ancyent Marinere model. This piece was inspired by the 1798 poem The Rime of the Ancient Mariner by Samuel Taylor Coleridge. McCready endeavored to capture the ballad's message in the watch's design, subtly reminding man that it is his duty to be kind.
New this year is a model that is more than suitable to be worn on a feminine wrist. Most certainly, the new Roman Sapphire Power
Reserve model will find favor with technically minded female watch customers, even at a case diameter of 36.25 mm, due to its elegantly slimming proportions and sleek steel bracelet. McCready's main interest lies in supplying his customers with the best quality he can. Each of the watches, even those that sell for under $300, is timed in two positions just before shipping and delivered with a computer-aided certificate bearing the owner's name and the watch's precise rate.
