Chronoswiss

For many, we are a brand that is already very old, establishes Chronoswiss founder Gerd-Rudiger Lang, a man who also quietly wonders how his company can be named with centuries-old traditional Swiss watch companies in the same breath. Actually, Chronoswiss has only been in existence for the past twenty years. Back then, the future looked dismal for mechanical watches and for Lang's beloved profession of watchmaking. Quartz watches were in, and mechanical watches and movements were literally dumped by the ton into the garbage. Twenty years ago, Lang was already feeling the "Fascination of Mechanics," today his brand's motto. But it is not only his mechanical watches that have no equal on the market, it is also the inner attitude of the company's boss that makes Chronoswiss different from other brands in the watch industry. "I have been lucky, and I have often done the right thing, without knowing exactly at that moment that it was the right thing to do," says the modest chronograph expert in a quiet manner that radiates a great deal of composure. The unmistakable look of the typical voluminous Chronoswiss case with its large crystals, fluted edges, large, spherical crown, and strong, curved strap lugs were laughed about by the brand's competitors twenty years ago. The beginning of the 1990s brought with it a number of imitators, however, and today Chronoswiss watches are absolutely in fashion.
Chronoswiss Watch

Chronoswiss acted as a bridge builder between horological traditions of the past and modern watch creations, consequently introducing the case back made of sapphire glass for all of its models, which has almost become standard in the industry today. One of Chronoswiss's youngest offspring and the company founder's "favorite child" is the Chronoscope, developed exclusively by Chronoswiss, a model that combines modern watch technology with an admiring look to the beginnings of stopwatch construction. The Chronoscope, a word built from the Greek roots chronos (time) and skopein (see or look), is the first model that Chronoswiss has completely constructed featuring a stop mechanism. Based on the "original" Chronoswiss model, the Regulateur, it is outfitted with the Enicar 165 caliber, a movement exclusively used by Chronoswiss, into whose base caliber the stop mechanism, controlled by a column wheel, was integrated during extensive reconstruction. The Chronoscope model was voted Watch of the Year, an honor bestowed upon a visibly moved Gerd-Rudiger Lang during the tenth edition of the award given by the readers of the German watch magazine ArmbandUhren and the German national newspaper Welt am Sonntag during the 2003 Basel Fair. At the same time, Gerd-Rudiger Lang's next idea to become a watch was ready for introduction at the Chronoswiss booth in Basel: The Repetition a Quarts (quarter-hour repeater) model deviates in both form and function from the numerous models developed before it by Chronoswiss, fascinating the observer with the soft sound of its strike train. Activated simply by pressing a button located on the left side of the case, two tiny hammers hit two gong springs wrapped around the movement first on each full hour, and then on every quarter of an hour. The incomparable effect of such a tender mechanical treasure has also captured Natalie Lang, daughter of the company head. After completing her watchmaker education in Switzerland as well as ensuing training in management, preparing her optimally for the position of junior president, she will soon join the company.
