Two new Breitling timepieces were presented in the spring of 2003 interestingly enough not at Basel, but in Geneva, at the International Automobile Salon! There was good reason for this unusual premiere celebration for a watch brand: This chronograph specialist from Grenchen, Switzerland, has contributed a stylish clock to the dashboard of the new Bentley showpiece, Continental GT, whose design and choice of materials are oriented on the characteristic vent openings of the car's interior as well as the chrome-plated settings of the dashboard's round instruments. The second above-mentioned Breitling-Bentley timepiece is one for the wrist:
A special edition of the Navitimer in a completely new case designed in titanic proportions, naturally including a rotating bezel and a slide rule scale.
Both of these timepieces highly recommended Breitling for the job of sponsoring the Bentley team for the 2003 24-hour Le Mans race. As in the wild '20s and '30s, when the daring Bentley Boys ruled the racetracks of Europe, both of the
modern racing-green sports cars dominated this traditional long-distance race and rocketed to a perfectly well-deserved win - also scoring for the proud watchmaker.
The Navitimer, the most striking and wellknown chronograph made by this sports and pilot's watch brand, has remained part of the inofficial basic equipment of pilots, board engineers, and aviation personnel for the last half -century.
On December 17,2003, the historic flight of the Wright Brothers' flying machine celebrated its 100th anniversary. The distance may only have been 36.5 meters long, but the plane travelled it on its own (motor) power with
a machine that was heavier than air - a milestone in aviation history. For this brand so involved in aviation sports, one hundred years of motored flight was naturally reason enough to issue a special edition: The Breitling Navitimer Monbrillant 1903 is available in 100 pieces each of yellow, red, and white gold alongside the serial steel version.
