Blu

Blu - source du temps, "source of time," is the brand named by a German master watchmaker who is certainly not unknown to our readers. For his brand, Bernhard Lederer has moved to Switzerland - to the source of the art of watchmaking. The combination of traditional watch know-how and innovative display technology Lederer is so famous for harmonizes wonderfully, producing exoticlooking timepieces of the best quality. This brand has not just come out of the blue: Lederer, who is responsible for the technical and construction side of the brand, has made a name for himself over more than twenty years of unconventional constructions and interpretations of adventurous displays and designs of time. In blu - source du temps this tradition of innovation continues. The unusual watches represent a new concept that leaves room for the philosophical contemplation of time and its perspectives. This is especially clear in the continual rotation of the dials on the Planet models with their off-center subsidiary minutes that rotate with the rest, seeming to say, "It's not time that is at the center of our lives. We are." In order to create this amazing impression, ingenious technology is necessary under the dial: A tiny differential continually keeps the subsidiary minute dial in a "vertical" or "correct" position in respect to the dial's imaginary 12 as it travels around the larger hour disc.

Alongside the Planet, a second model line has emerged that juggles conventional and retrograde dial trains and whose models bear the name Duett, Terzett, or Quintett depending on the amount of displays shown on the dial. The blu Terzett model has its three displays (hours, minutes, and date) arranged in strictly separated spheres, although the individual circles of numerals intertwine. Different from a classic regulator arrangement, the minute circle cuts through the hour circle. By arranging the hands and scale circles on two different levels, the smaller hour hand runs underneath the scale ring for the minute display, lending the dial an unusual spatiality. The blu Quartett model is also outfitted with an off-center hour hand, while its minute hand jumps back to the beginning upon reaching the end of its halfcircle. Not only does blu Quintett's minute hand move with the help of the lower arbor, but also' a sweet little retrograde month hand, which forms the calendar together with the window displays of date and day.
