| Bertolucci |
It has been a few years now since Neuchatel's famous watch brand Bertolucci has begun to experience a renaissance caused by new ownership and new leadership. In February of
2001 a group of experienced businessmen took over the majority of shares and brought new talent, ideas, and know-how to the concern. President of the board is now Andreas Gembler, formerly president of tobacco giant Philip Morris International. Chief executive is now Jean-Paul Gaillard, once president of a Swiss Nestle subsidiary. The Bertolucci family is still active in the concern - in addition to founder Remo, it
is above all the second generation Bertoluccis, Jessica and Mirko, who continue to serve as inspiration. The talents developed and honed in the family company of creating a high-quality,
well-designed product and positioning it correctly are some of the main advantages of this brand.
The introduction of the women's watch Serena in 1999 began a new chapter in Bertolucci's almost twenty-five-year history. The somewhat playful artistic element, a characteristic common to all Bertolucci watches, took a backseat for the first time to a graphic, almost geometric fundamental concept. Serena is effective in the simplicity of its perfectly oval, perfectly arched case that fits into the oval gap of the integrated leather strap or metal bracelet. Of course the watch offers a myriad of possibilities for jewels on the bezel and dial, this type of decoration accessorizing the timepiece in a decidedly feminine way.

Bertolucci's new Doppia collection was created in 2003 for the woman of discerning taste. Undoubtedly the most striking feature of this timepiece is its unusually ground sapphire crystal, displaying the same thickness as the metal case holding it. The effect is astounding, creating a decidedly feminine and unique "face" for the watch. Another bold element of this timepiece is its galuchat strap. Increasingly popular among high-quality brands this season, stingray skin is a very exclusive and longwearing alternative to the more traditional straps made of reptile, ostrich, and cow- or horse-hide.
Although the brand is concentrating on women's watches of late, Bertolucci's men's Uomo collection has been updated with a decidedly contemporary dial. The Uomo Flash is housed in a traditional Uomo case and outfitted with the same Valoux 7750 as the regular Uomo collection, but the freshly designed dial and rubber strap are sure to attract a hip crowd of wearers.
