Audemars Piguet Watches

Today, Audemars Piguet is the oldest watch manufacture still owned by its founding family. In 1875 Jules-Louis Audemars and Edward-Auguste Piguet together founded a company "for the manufacture of fine and complicated watches using the most modern of production methods." To commemorate these founding fathers, today's owners have created the model lines Jules Audemars and Edward Piguet. For the newest Jules Audemars model, which AP has communicated as a "symbol for tradition and innovation," a completely new automatic movement was created: Caliber 3120, a stand-out with 60 hours of power reserve, a unilaterally rotating, ball-bearing gold rotor, and finest finishing. In just about 130 years, Audemars Piguet has written watch history more than once, and the company's flare for innovation has extended right into today's world. The brand from Le Brassus was one of the few companies largely responsible for the renaissance of the mechanical watch at the end of the 1980s, but it was in 1972 - more than thirty years ago now - that the Royal Oak delivered the premiere definition of a prestigious sports watch. Everything about the Royal Oak was new: the octagonal shape, the use of steel as a precious metal, the difficult construction of the case with eight screws going right through it, and the introduction of a band integrated right into the case.

To celebrate the thirtieth birthday ofthe original model in 2002, a new generation debuted, beginning with the Royal Oak Concept Watch. The design of the Concept Watch is decidedly futuristic, and the materials are the result of the newest in technological development. The watch's manually wound movement is absolutely unique. Its plate has become the dial and harmoniously guides the eye in brilliant asymmetry to the tourbillon, the dynamograph, and the display of the power reserve expressed in barrel revolutions. "Concept" sports enthusiasts who enjoy extreme conditions were also not forgotten, and materials were utilized that are normally found in aeronautical, medicinal, and energy-technology industries: The bezel is made of titanium, the case is made of alacrite 602. Another remarkable facet of the watch is the crown functions: To wind, set the hands, and set to neutral, the wearer needs only to press a button and check the display to make sure that the proper function has been selected. Despite its ties to the past and the future, the Royal Oak is still anchored in the present, bonded with important events. The special edition model Royal Oak City of Sails 2003 was created to mark the America's Cup 2003. Audemars Piguet, as the official partner, celebrated the great success of the crew captained by Ernesto Bertarelli, who for the first time in the history of this legendary regatta has brought the Cup to Europe with his boat, the Alinghi.
